Our microbiology laboratory sections in bacteriology & mycology, molecular diagnostics, parasitology, serology, and virology provide a wide variety of tests for most animal species.

Bacteriology & mycology

We provide testing to quickly and accurately diagnosis infectious disease.  Our lab tests samples from veterinarians, food animal producers, and researchers and we help you interpret the results so you can make the best decisions for animal health.  Our microbiologists are also available to answer questions and provide consultations.

Immunodiagnostics (Serology)

We offer a wide variety of tests for health screening, regulatory testing for import/export, surveillance, certification, and diagnostic purposes. Tests measure an immune response to the infectious agent (antibody detection) or identify infectious agent proteins (antigen detection).

We work with practicing veterinarians and commercial laboratories on new test development and validation, and we collaborate with faculty members in the College of Veterinary Medicine on new and novel infectious agents.

Molecular diagnostics

We offer a wide variety of tests for diagnosis of disease, regulatory testing, surveillance, and certification. Tests detect DNA and RNA of bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic pathogens.

We work with practicing veterinarians and commercial laboratories on new test development and validation, and we collaborate with faculty members in the College of Veterinary Medicine on new and novel infectious agents.

Parasitology

Our lab offers testing for the detection of parasitic infections in domestic and wild animals. We provide accurate identification in a timely and cost-efficient manner benefiting animals, owners, veterinarians and researchers.

Virology

Virology testing is performed in our Immunodiagnostics and Molecular Diagnostic laboratories. We offer a wide variety of tests for health screening, regulatory testing for import/export, surveillance, certification, and diagnostic purposes.

If a viral infection is suspected, it is important to collect specimens as soon as possible following onset of clinical symptoms or death of the animal.

We also work with practicing veterinarians and commercial laboratories on new test development and validation, and we collaborate with faculty members in the College of Veterinary Medicine on new and novel infectious agents.
