WADDL is excited to introduce DEPOHGEN®, a new test in our catalog that supports safer veterinary surgical outcomes through targeted genetic screening.
Developed by Dr. Michael Court, veterinary pharmacologist and geneticist at Washington State University, DEPOHGEN® detects a specific genetic variant associated with Delayed Post-Operative Hemorrhage (DEPOH) in dogs. Knowing a dog’s DEPOH status prior to surgery can inform the need for prophylactic antifibrinolytic medication, and additional post-op monitoring —especially in sighthounds and certain other breeds at higher risk.
How it works
- Uses PCR technology to detect a risk-associated variant
- Accepts either cheek swab (DNA Collection Brush) or whole blood (EDTA) samples
- Sampling kits are provided free of charge upon test order
- Turn-around time: Results available on Fridays for samples received by Wednesday.
Only the DEPOHGEN® test is authorized for determining DEPOH risk in dogs in the USA.
